I have very detailed service manuals for both the Commando itself and appropriate Buick manual for the engine. I've hooked up a small one with a gravity feed for testing. The only significant thing that I think it's missing is the gas tank. The glass looks funny in the pictures but it's all in great condition (there's just a bunch of tape on it from the painting/blasting). It's all in my basement along with a number of other things that were removed (doors, seats, console instruments, etc. So if you decide to drop in a bigger motor, now would be a great time. The PO took the front end off to dustless blast and paint it. It's got rust, but I've got replacement sheet metal for all of the worst sections (floor pans and rocker panels). Haven't driven it yet so I can't speak to its condition, but the fluid looks to be the right color. I believe the transmission is a TH400 and a Dana 20. I've been been told by the guys on the forum that it's probably just stuck valves that need a good cleaning. I've got it turning over but it won't fire. It's got an even fire 231 V6 from a 78 Buick. If you've got an account on I'd be happy to share a link to my build thread. This is a perfect project for someone looking for a classic Jeep but wants the satisfaction of restoring it themselves. It's uncut (rear fender has not been modified to fit large, off-roading tires) which is rare with these. Many of the parts are compatible with more typical Jeeps so parts aren't all that hard to come by. These are the more desirable ones.) You can seat 4 (or 2 if you leave out the bench) and still carry more cargo in the back than a Wrangler. They changed them in '72 and called those the 'Bullnose'. They've got that classic Jeep look (only this range of years has that classic grill. Very similar look but at about 1/4 the price. They were Jeep's answer to the classic Bronco. I bought this with good intentions but realized I didn't have the time to put into it.Ĭommandos are great little trucks. I haven't had it running since then, but I think that can be attributed more to my lack of expertise than anything. I've got a 1971 Jeepster Commando project for sale.
